Tinnitus – Symptoms, and Causes

Tinnitus is a condition in which you can experience ringing or other noises in your ear. The noises can vary from buzzing, roaring, clicking, humming to hissing. Others cannot hear the noise but it can affect one or both ears. It affects 15 to 20% of people and is more common in men and aged people. Tinnitus can occur at intervals or be constant. It can even be loud enough to disrupt your hearing of external sounds, or it can be of a low decibel. Tinnitus can affect your sleep concentration and cause fatigue and anxiety.

Causes of Tinnitus

  • Age-related hearing loss
  • Ear or sinus infection
  • Ear canal blockage caused by excess wax or foreign bodies
  • Hypertension
  • Head or neck trauma
  • As a side effect of certain medications like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cancer drugs, antibiotics, and antidepressants.

Sometimes, tinnitus can be caused by other conditions like Meniere’s disease, ear tube, or bone problems, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and tumors. Besides, thyroid disorders, migraines, and other autoimmune disorders can be a cause as well.

You increase your risk of experiencing tinnitus if you are constantly exposed to loud music or noises. Your risk of tinnitus is higher if you smoke, consume alcohol, or suffer from obesity.

Garlic Oil in Ear For Tinnitus

Garlic has a host of medicinal properties that make it a potent remedy for various health conditions. It contains a compound called allicin with antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties that help fight infections. It has anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting, and analgesic properties as well. The topical application of garlic helps treat ear infections, earache, and tinnitus.

How to Use

Peel a garlic clove and cut the tip off one end. Wrap the clove in a piece of gauze and place it in your ear with the cut ends slightly into the ear. Place a warm towel over the ear. You can put garlic oil into the affected ear with the help of a dropper or a cotton ball as well. Besides, you can buy garlic oil from health stores or make garlic oil easily at home.

You Will Need

  • One garlic glove
  • Two tablespoons of mustard or olive oil

Peel and crush the garlic clove. Place it in a small saucepan along with the oil and heat it very gently. Once the oil becomes fragrant with garlic, take it off the heat. Allow the mixture to cool down. Strain the mixture and store the oil in a glass bottle. Lie down with the affected ear facing up. Use a dropper to put two drops of oil into the ear.

Cover the ear opening with a cotton ball. Alternatively, soak a cotton ball in the garlic oil and place it over the ear opening. Lie still for 15 minutes to allow the oil to flow down the ear canal. Make fresh garlic oil every time you need it, or you can store the oil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Precaution

Since garlic oil is potent and may cause irritation or burns on sensitive skin, do a patch test before using it. Do not use garlic oil if you have a ruptured eardrum.
