Sexually transmitted diseases can cause a lot of anxiety. Read how you can use colloidal silver for trichomoniasis treatment.

What is Trichomoniasis?

Trichomoniasis is a common parasitic infection that transmits through sexual contact. Trichomonas vaginalis is a one-celled protozoan parasite that is transmitted during sexual intercourse. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world. Since the disease shows no symptoms initially, many people are mostly unaware that they have the disease. This increases the chances of transmission to others.

The infection is contagious but curable, and if left untreated, it can last for months or years. Pregnant women with trichomoniasis run the risk of premature delivery. They may also deliver low birth weight babies and possibly infect them during vaginal delivery. Women with trichomoniasis are at a higher risk of contracting HIV, which causes AIDS.

Symptoms and Causes

Women with trichomoniasis might feel the below symptoms:

  • Redness and itching in the genital area
  • Pain during urination
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Foul smelling vagina
  • White, grey, yellow, or green vaginal discharge

It is mostly asymptomatic in men, but symptoms like the following might show up:

  • Burning sensation on urination or ejaculation
  • Discharge from the penis, and
  • Irritation inside the penis

Both male and female partners should take treatment to cure the infection and avoid sexual intercourse till the condition subsides.

People At A Higher Risk or Getting The Infection

  • People with multiple sexual partners
  • Who have a history of sexually transmitted infections.
  • People with previous infection with trichomoniasis
  • Who indulge in unprotected sex, anal sex, oral sex, or homosexual practices

Colloidal Silver for Trichomoniasis

Suspended silver colloids in water make up colloidal silver and have antimicrobial properties. Research has shown that these colloidal silver particles attach themselves to the parasites and prevent cellular respiration in the parasite. This makes the parasite inactive. Colloidal silver has anti-inflammatory properties as well, making it effective in reducing swelling and pain. In addition, it enhances cell recovery.

How To Use Colloidal Silver for Trichomoniasis

You can buy colloidal silver from a health store or chemists. Wash your genital area with warm water and dry it with a microfiber cloth. Now, pour ten drops of the colloidal silver on a ball of sterile cotton wool and apply it to the lower reproductive tract.

Keep doing this practice once a day consecutively for not more than two weeks. However, we will advise you to consult your doctor before using colloidal silver for trichomoniasis.

Other Home Remedies for Trichomoniasis

Note: Sufficient scientific studies do not back home remedies. Use it only as an adjunct therapy in addition to medically prescribed treatment.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has antibiotic and antimicrobial properties, which help in destroying the trichomonas parasite. To make it safe for topical application, you can dilute the oil in a 1:1 ratio with almond oil or jojoba oil. Dip cotton wool in the diluted oil and apply it to your lower reproductive tract. Alternately, add a few drops of the tea tree oil to warm bath water and use it to douche. Do this twice daily.

2. Garlic

Garlic has antimicrobial and antibiotic properties as well. Peel raw garlic and chew it thrice daily with your meals to see the results. This might take time but is a natural remedy for treating trichomoniasis.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has acidic properties that create a hostile environment for the parasite. Dilute it with water, soak a ball of cotton wool in it, and dab on the genitals.

4. Probiotic Yogurt

Probiotic yogurt contains good bacteria found in the female reproductive tract. You can consume it orally or use it topically to get rid of the trichomonas parasite.

5. Other Remedies

Drink a mixture of water and turmeric twice a day to flush out the parasite. Black tea inhibits the growth of the parasite.

Prevention

Wearing condoms during sexual intercourse helps avoid the risk of trichomoniasis. Maintain good sexual hygiene and avoid sharing personal items. Besides, include vitamin C-rich foods in your diet to boost immunity. Practice monogamy and get yourself and your partner routinely tested for STDs, including trichomoniasis.

When to See A Doctor

It is better to schedule an appointment with your doctor when you notice the following:

  • Irritation or itching in your genitals
  • Foul-smelling vaginal or penile discharge
  • Pain during urination or intercourse

Doctors diagnose the disease by a pelvic exam. To check for the parasite, doctors test the vaginal fluid in women, and the urine in men.

Medical treatment involves either a single megadose of antibiotic drug metronidazole or tinidazole. Or a lower dose twice a day for seven days. Both partners must abstain from sexual intercourse till the infection is cured.
